I believe that CT has an incredible opportunity to lead in these most important areas and that they both can go hand in hand. Currently, the political class has indebted us and put us at the mercy of countries who openly dislike the United States.
This has been brought upon the American people in a bipartisan manner, yet for each party to it’s own ends. We who are in the middle will always be powerless unless we root out the political class and their self perpetuating dilemma’s they put America in to further their own goals.
It is a matter of national security not to mention common sense as well as our financial security for us to utilize alternative sources of energy across the board while we also explore the areas of renewable, and SUSTAINABLE energy resources.
Nuclear: It is my belief that we should utilize this form of power which has been proved to be by far, the safest, cleanest and most practical form of power in countless nations around the globe. France’s nuclear power produces greater than 80 percent of its energy needs with out incident. The impact on the environment is one of the least of any major power source and the building and maintaining of such plants would be a huge plus for the local economy and work force. Those who are deathly afraid of such power sources in our region of the world may be surprised to know that currently there is more nuclear power being produced in our region that you think! How many nuclear submarines are currently in Groton CT? In Newport Virginia and elsewhere? There are subs and aircraft carriers that have employed nuclear power since the 1950’s with an incredible safety record. If we are truly looking to protect our environment, reduce Carbon emissions, increase national security, Nuclear is a proven way to go.
Solar: This method has come far in recent history. I would propose on a “smaller scale” to employ solar solutions on ALL NEW BUILDINGS proposed in our state and region. The technology exists today to reduce our power consumption dramatically through solar panels atop every new building that could provide at a minimum solar heated hot water during the summer months at negligible cost.
Energy efficiency: Making homes and businesses more energy efficient would save long range $$. By employing and incentivising new window technology, insulation and building techniques, we could stimulate the building business and associated businesses while saving power and again the environment.
Wind: CT hills and shorelines are ideal areas for wind farms that could be a part of our New England grid of alternative and renewable energy. Up to now we have had to tolerate folks in Cape Cod for instance saying NOT IN MY BACKYARD for the wind farms which were proposed to be some 5 miles off shore in shallow waters and constant wind source. Agreements must be made for a partnership and cooperation between states in this region.
Tidal flow energy generation: Power generation from the massive filling and emptying of the long island sound could be a great potential for power generation for our combination of energy sources. All these and more could be utilized in an approach to keep our nation supplied with its energy needs while keeping future generations of Americans safe by not relying on foreign oil.
What about drill baby drill or shale oil or algae or ethanol? I think you need positions on that.
Do any of you remember when gas was around 4 dollars a gallon and the climb seemed as though we were heading for 5 and more not so long ago? Merely the statement at the time that we were going to DRILL BABY DRILL stopped the rise in its tracks and brought the price down within a week 20 cents. What happened since? What has caused us to completely forget this? Expanding our efforts in domestic energy exploration must be a policy that in combination with all the rest of the paths in my proposal will bring us to energy independence. It is in everyone’s best interest to support this effort.
Alternative fuels and blends must also be incorporated into our policy which include the safe and clean use of shale oil and coal. The country that put man on the moon, developed many of the most incredible inventions in history can do literally anything. You give CT engineers and scientists the task and they will develop the solution and the workers will produce. Whether it’s energy sources that we currently speak of or new areas that have not yet been even discussed in science fiction, I have absolute confidence in the people of my state, CT.
I really want to hear your feedback on this issue. As an individual running as a Senator, my job would be to listen to you as your representative and then act accordingly upon the expressed will of you, the people. This is why at the end of every issue I have a comment feedback section, because without your direct involvement in this campaign, I would just be another politician promoting my agenda over that of those whom I work for and was elected to represent.
